Cedar Breaks National Monument
Cedar Breaks is situated at an elevation of 10,000 feet and is
surrounded by the Dixie National Forest. The main feature is a
natural amphitheater plunging 2,000 feet into geologic history in
multi-colored layers of the Markagunt Plateau. Hundreds of layers of
limestone formations can be found here such as pillars, columns,
hoodoos and other oddities. Here they seem particularly vivid as
they are constructed in a small area. Open from late May to
mid-October. The monument is a premier cross-country skiing and
snowmobiling destination in the winter, with access from Brian Head
Resort.

sculpted formations of Wasatch limestone are contrasted by giant
ponderosa pines. Other areas of highlight located in the Dixie
National Forest are Pine Valley, Navajo Lake, Panguitch Lake and
